Miller goes to 2-0 in District Play

Miller defesated Skyline 40-21 last Friday to improve to 2-0 in the District and 8-1 overall. The Cards play at home tonight against Marionville. Marionville can win the district with a 7 point win. Dalton Gulick ended the game with 100 yards rushing and 224 yards passing.

The Miller defense is leading the way! Miller produced their 3rd shutout in 5 games as Miller improved to 4-1 and Lockwood dropped to 4-1. Brock Duncan had 18 tackles and 4 for loss. John Nunez also recorded 4 tackles for loss and sack. Dalton Gulick, Brenden Richardson, and Stewart Parnell each had an interception. Fred Sattler had two concecutive plays on Lockwood's opening possesion when Lockwood had drove inside the red zone. Miller held Lockwood to 0 points and around 200 yards and 6 first downs. Lockwood was averaging over 30 points per game coming into the contest and was undefeated.

Offensively the big uglies up front came to play. Miller rushed for 400 yards on 24 carries. That is almost 17 yards per carry!!! Derrick Estell led the way with 176 yards on just 4 carries and TD. Dalton Gulick added 75 yards and 2 TD rushing along with 75 yards passing and a TD. Jordan Moots had 2 TD and touched the ball only 3 times. One receiving and one rushing. Next the Cardinals will travel to 0-4 Jasper before returning home for Homecoming against Liberal.

Miller Bounce Back

After suffering our first loss last week in KC the Cards had a great week of practice and a great first half to defeat an improving Sarcoxie team 35-0. The Cardinals took advantage of 4 first half Sarcoxie turnovers to take a lead 35-0 at the half. Miller had a goal line stand on their way to the their 2nd shutout in 4 games.

The second half was ugly as each team had several penalties and there were few plays due to the running clock. Chance Taylor and Brenden Richardson ahd 2 TD a piece. The Card Defense held a Sarcoxie running game that was averaging about 300 per game to 124 yards rushing. Cole Duncan had his first career interception. David Rose and John Nunez were among those that had fumble recoveries. The Cards improved to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the SRVC conference. The next game is at 4-0 Lockwood.

Cardinals Fall in KC 28-20

The Cardinal football team traveled to KC and lsot to Hogan Prep 28-20. The Cardinals led the game 7-0 in the first but that was the final time. Hogan Prep had 4 TD plays of over 35 yards to come away with the victory. Dalton Gulick threw for 196 yards and ran for 75 in the game. Brock Duncan led the team in tackles and Jacob Lundquist had a good defensive game as well recording 3 tackles for loss. Chance Taylor added an interception for the road team.

The team traveled to watch Lees Summit West the night before to watch the states #1 ranked calss 5 team. LSW were gracious hosts and provided the Miller players with free pizza and seating at the game. The booster club and fundraiser money helped pay for the hotel and travel. Despite the loss the players enjoyed their experience and it was a chance for us to improve and bond as a team.

2-0 Cardinals Head to Hogan Prep

The Miller Football Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start thanks to a 46-21 victory over Greenfield and a 56-0 win over Diamond. The Cardinals next face Hogan Prep in Kansas City on Saturday, September 10 at 1PM. The Rams handed Miller their only regular season defeat last season 27-21.

Junior QB Dalton Gulick is off to a fast start. In 2 games Dalton has completed 21-35 passes for 330 yards and 4 TD and also ran for 155 yards on just 15 carries and 5 TD. Sophmore Brenden Richardson leads the team in rushing with 292 yards on 19 carries with 4 TD rushing. The OL has been strong up front allowing the backs to rush for 650 yards in 2 games. Stewart Parnell and Jordan Moots have led the recieving core to this point.

Defensively Brock Duncan led the team in tackles in game one with 13 but was injured late and had to sit out against Diamond. Austin Richardson has been very strong in the middle of the defense as he leads the team in TFL. Moots has 2 INT while Parnell and Chance Taylor each have one.

Starters Brock Duncan and John Nunez will both be back this week against Hogan Prep. The team will be leaving Friday after school and each player has been given an itenerary on the weekend.

Greenfield @ Miller August 26

Miller will travel to play in the Jamboree on Friday August 19. The Jamboree takes place in El DOrado Springs. Teams will be Miller, El DO, Springfield Catholic, and Fair Grove. Events will start at 7PM and the El Dorado Springs Boosters will feed the teams following the event.

Players Volunteer in Joplin

6 Members of the Miller Football Program gave up a Wednesday of their summer vacation to assist at a distribution center in Joplin. The warehouse is full of goods that are still coming in to assist the victims of the May 22 twister. The guys job was to organize the goods on to different palletts according to category. After that they wrapped them and the fork lift carries them to a place in the warehouse until they are needed. In the picture are Chance Taylor, Cole Duncan, Brock Duncan, Stewart Parnell, Dalton Glick, and Brenden Richardson.

7 on 7 Tournament

Miller football will be participating in a 7 on 7 tournament at Lockwood HS on Saturday June 4. The team will depart from the HS at 9 AM. The cost is just $3. Bring money for food if you wish. We will take coolers of Gatorade and water. We should return around 3AM.

We will practice Thursday morning at 830AM. If you can't make practice you can still come Saturday. We are also going to Monett next Tuesday evening. We will leave around 5:00 PM.

Miller Cardinal Football Summer 2011

Championship Training will begin on May 30, 2011. It will run from 7AM – 830AM on Monday – Thursday. The weight room is also open on Fridays 7-8AM for those that missed a day or want to get ahead. Students-athletes will work on improving their speed, agility, and strength while also learning the value of discipline, hard work, and team building. I can’t wait for another great summer for our Miller athletes. All athletes are welcome. Two years ago we started and “Iron Cardinal” program. We have seen tremendous benefits come from the hard work we have put in. An athlete must complete 31 workouts. The weight room will be open approximately 45 days this summer. Those reaching 31 become an “Iron Cardinal” and will receive a shirt as well as have their picture taken to be hung on the weight room wall. The Miller Cardinals are 21-5 in the last two seasons and have produced 8 All-State players in that time span along with over 30 all-conference players. Miller is 20-1 in the SRVC in the last 3 seasons and the target will be on our back again next year. We will welcome the challenge to be better everyday! There are various camps and 7 on 7 / lineman challenge’s scheduled for this summer as well. For a complete schedule of Miller’s Summer Events see coach Baldwin. The college camps are great to go to if you can. As coaches we will emphasize the importance of our Miller team events (camps and 7 on 7) more so than the college camps. MILLER, Mo. — Alex Stoll scored four of his six touchdowns in the second quarter Saturday to spark St. Genevieve Valle Catholic to a 56-26 quarterfinal win in the MSHSAA Class 1 football playoffs.Both teams went into the contest with 11-1 records. Miller’s Daniel Parscal opened the scoring on a 33-yard touchdown scamper but that was the last time the Cardinals would hold the lead.The Warriors led 14-12 after the first quarter before expanding the lead to 42-12 at halftime. Stoll’s four TDs paved the way for Valle’s second-quarter outburst, while Miller failed to get on the board.“They ran on us really well,” said Miller assistant coach Derek Hill. “We had a couple of big plays but we just could not capitalize on opportunities. They did and we did not and that is basically the story, especially of the second quarter.”Valle’s Luke Euding scored on an 82-yard kickoff return and a 77-yard run before Miller closed out the first-quarter scoring on a 1-yard plunge by Justin Jack.The only third-quarter score by either team came when Miller’s Stewart Parnell blocked a punt attempt and ran the ball back 35 yards for a touchdown.Parscal carried the ball 23 times for 141 yards rushing and one TD. Stoll had 107 rushing yards.

The 2010 Pierce City football season ended Monday night with the Eagles falling 35-8 to the Miller Cardinals. The game was a lot closer than the score indicated.
"I thought at times we played well enough to win the game," said Pierce City Head Coach Mac Whitehead. "We needed to play a perfect game to win, and simply put, we didn't do that."
Miller scored on its second offensive possession. Cardinals' quarterback Justin Jack directed an 85-yard scoring drive in five plays and 1:22. Jack completed passes to Dustin Cates for plays covering 7 and 26 yards, then ran for 13 more yards, setting up a 14-yard scoring run by junior running back Daniel Parscal.
Parscal finished the game with 105 yards rushing.
Pierce City would try to answer, driving the ball to the Miller 1-yard line, only to be turned away on fourth down. The Eagles were only able to capitalize on one of four deep trips into Cardinals' territory.
"I thought we had a good defensive game plan," said Whitehead. "We moved the ball all night on offense but were unable to find the end zone."
Eagles' running backs Cody Cox and Curtis Palmer rushed 139 and 106 yards respectively. Miller's stout defense was only able to force one Pierce City three-and-out, and that was only with the aid of a holding penalty
Pierce City finished the game with 257 yards rushing, and Eagles' quarterback Cedric O'Hara threw for 95 yards. The Eagles also racked up 20 first downs, but Miller's defense did not allow a point until late in the game when receiver Wayne Jo Sooter pulled in a 21-yard TD pass from O'Hara.
"We didn't play a perfect game by any means," said Miller Coach Dustin Baldwin. "I thought they were much more physical this time, but we made the plays we had to."
Miller would add to the lead in the second quarter scoring on a Zach Eaton 65-yard pass reception from Jack. Cardinals' Derrick Estell caught a 22-yard touchdown pass with 50 seconds remaining in the first half to give Miller a 21-0 halftime lead.
"Miller is a good club," said Whitehead. "Good teams find ways to win, and that's what Miller did. We are going to miss the senior leadership from this Eagles' squad. I have enjoyed coaching these boys."
The Eagles completed the season with a 10-2 record with both losses coming to Miller.
Heading into the off-season there will be some question that need to be answered. Especially on the O-line and D-line.
"We need some young guys to step up," added Whitehead. "We want our guys to play a winter sport, run track in the spring and lift weights in the summer. We need to replace three linemen and that won't be easy.
"We have placed a foundation that we can build on in the future." said Whitehead.

The Miller Cardinal Football team is less than 30 hours away from a chance to become a District Champion for the first time since 1999. Last week the Cards beat Skyline 62-7 to go to 2-0 and +26 in the district. The Cardinals, who have 8 district championships, look to claim their first one in 11 years. Miller plays @ Marionville on Thursday October 28 at 7PM. The Comets come into the game at 4-5 and still have a chance to win the district with a win on Friday night. If the Cardinals prevail we will play at home most likely against Lockwood next Wednesday.

Miller defeated PC Friday 41-6 to claim their 3rd strait conference championship. The Cardinals held PC to 6 points, a team that was averaging 46 a game. The Miller Offense piled up 410 yards during the game. It was a TEAM effort and performance. Contributions came from everyone. Justin Jack threw for two TDs and ran for two TDs, Daniel Parscal had 86 yards and 2 TD, Zach Eaton and Tyler Hinshaw each had 5 catches. SR Rhen Garner and SO Derrick Estell caught TDs. 6 different receivers caught balls. The OL has not allowed a true QBsac all season to this point. Miller plays at 4-4 Skyline on Friday October 22, 2010.

Miller JV won at class 3 Catholic on Monday October, 11. The score was 30-12. The JV is undefeated at this point and will host Webb City Sophmores on Monday October, 18 for it's final game of the year. Dalton Gulick fired 4 TD passes in the game. Chris Collins caught the first one on a 65 yard seam route. Cole Duncan caught 2 TDs. The defense gave up just 6 each half.

The Miller Football team executed the game plan extremely well Friday night in a 56-6 defeat of previously unbeaten Lockwood Tigers. The Offensive Line had their best Friday Night yet in the run game as we were able to run for about 9 yards per carry in the first half. Daniel Parscal had 115 yards on 12 carries in 2 quarters. Justin jack threw for 150 yards on 8-11 passing with 3 TDs and also ran for 50 yards and a 2 TDs. Zach Eaton caught his first career TD pass in the second quarter.

The Miller Defense stiffled Lockwood in the first half. Miller held Lockwood to 45 first half yards and 0 points. Cody Taylor blocked a punt right before half and Rhen Garner recovered it in the endzone.

The Miller JV improved to 4-0 last week with a decisive victory at home over Greenfield. The JV play at Diamond tonight trying to get a 5th win.

Miller Varsity Cardinals dropped our first game of the season. Miller had 6 turnovers against a good Ram football team. A determined Cardinal comeback fell short with 12 seconds left in the game when Miller fumbled for the last time. The final score was 26-20. Miller will try and get back on track this week against Sarcoxie. The game is at Miller. Sarcoxie will enter the contest at 1-2 and Miller at 2-1. Sarcoxie has played all conference games so far and Miller is 2-0 in the SRVC.

The Miller JV picked up its 3rd win on Monday September 13 @ Jasper. The final was 47-0. The JV team is doing a tremendous job of playing hard on Mondays and working hard during the week to help get the varsity prepared for Friday nights. The JV will host Greenfield on Monday.

I would like to thank Derek Hill, Jason Smith, Kevin LaSalle, and Jim LaSalle for their efforts this summer in helping to complete 44 lockers for our football locker room. The school district as well as the generousity of the Booster Club have made it possible to make a field house we can all be proud of. We have a film room, locker room (with lockers), a bathroom, coaches office, and equipment room. The facility is complete with heat, air, bathrooms, showers, and an ice machine. The student athletes have enjoyed its use early this season. We look forward to having this facility for a long time.

The Miller Cardinal Football Team recently attended the NEO passing day in Miami, Oklahoma on June 26. The day was a huge success. The Cardinals went 7-0. There were 6 schools in attendance. Miller was 5-0 in "round robin" play and followed that up with a tournament victories over Nowata and Beggs, both from Okalhoma. Congrats to the young men that attended.

Summer is here and football is just around the corner. It is important we are in the weight room this summer.. Championship Training will Start June 1, 2010 and run from 7-830 Monday-Thursday. Fridays the weight room will be open 7-8AM as make up days. The goal is 31 total workouts for the summer to become an "iron cardinal". This is important in being successful on the football field in the fall.

HS Camp dates are;
June 7-11 from 6-8PM and July 26-30 from 6-815. Be there before 530 for equipment.

JH Camp week is July 26-29 from 4-530pm

7 on 7 in Lockwood is on June 5. The cost is $10.

7 on 7 at NEO in Miami is on June 26. The cost is $10 + food.

7 on 7 in Monett on Tuesdays. June 15, 22, and 29. We will leave Miller HS around 445-5PM on those nights.

The "top 10" board will show the strongest or fastest individuals in 7 categories and it also includes a TOTAL category for our 4 core lifts. Valle Catholic executed well all day and beat Miller 42-6. Congrats Cards on a great season! I know there was a ton of hard work put in on the part of so many to make it happen. It was a season filled with turbulence right from the start. Everyone involved fought and persevered. People were asked to step into new roles as our injury toll added up and they did.

Miller won 10 games for the 2nd consecutive year which had never been done. The Seniors won over 30 games in their career. Back-to-back SRVC Champions. Regional and Sectional victories. Final ranking of 7th in the MoSports power poll. Post season awards to follow.

Thriller in Thayer!

What a great HS football game!! Thanks to all that made the trip down to Thayer on a Monday night. The final was Miller 35 Thayer 34 in double OT. Both teams played their hardest and the Cardinals pulled it out. Great effort by so many players to get that win. Justin Jack threw for 292 yards with 3 TDs and two 2-point conversions. Tyler Hinshaw had 11 catches for 114 yards and a TD along with an interception defensively. Daniel Parscal scored two rushing TDs. Dustin Cates had his first receiving TD and two huge catches on the drive that tied the game.

Defensive leaders were Daniel Parscal 16 tackles, Cates 12, Zach Eaton 12, and Derek Jack 11.

This was a total team effort and we are so proud of the win! Great job Cardinals.

Miller will play the 12-0 Valle Catholic Warriors on Saturday November 14.

Cardinals Top Jasper 36-12 in Regional

Miller beat Jasper on Wednesday Nov 4. The Cardinals exploded for 500 yards of offense. Justin Jack threw for 282 yards and 3 TDS and Daniel Parscal rushed for 222 yards and two TDS. The defense was led by Luke Nunez who had 11 tackles, two for loss, and a blocked kick. Nunez also caught a career high 3 TD passes in the game. Miller plays Thayer on Monday November 9, 2009. The Miller Cardinal Football Team will try and make a deep play-off run starting on Wednesday November 4, 2010 in Jasper, Missouri. Miller will travel to Jasper for a 7pm kickoff. Both teams are 8-2. Miller won the regular season contest 33-20. The winner will play the winner of Thayer and Lockwood on Monday November 9.

The Miller Cardinals finished their season last Thursday at home against Marioville in a driving rain storm. The Cardinals defeated the Comets 35-0 to close out their regular season at 8-2.
Tyler Hinshaw scored 3 TDs in the second half, 2 on receptions from Justin Jack. Daniel Parscall and Darin Clark both had over 100 yards and a TD rushing as well. The Miller defense was stingy allowing only 104 yards and 23 through the first 3 quarters.

Miller tied Greenfield at 6-1 to become the SRVC Conference Co-Champion.

Field House Under Construction

It's an exciting time to be a Miller Cardinal. Football Camp is less than a week away and the Cardinal Field House is getting some work done to it. We are still a ways away from completion but we hope to have outer walls, bathrooms, heat, air, and a ceiling completed by the time two-a-day practices start on August 10.

We are still seeking funds to complete the project. We have a started an account for the field house. Off-season is going great. The Miller Cardinal football team is putting in the hours and work to make themselves better this off-season. Student-athletes are arriving at 6:30 a.m. on Monday through Thursday and working until about 8:30. We currently have 32 scheduled work outs and have completed 14 of them as of June 23rd. We are averaging just over 40 student-athletes per day and have at least 12 that have perfect attendance to this point.

Summer Weights start June 1st

Summer weights and condidtioning will start June 1, 2009. We will go monday through thursday at 7am. Be sure and sign up in the office ASAP! Our mornings will include strength training, speed and agility training, and football based activities mixed in.

That gives us atleast 32 open days for the weight room. It will open some Fridays as well for players that miss and want to make a day up or just get in extra work. The goal is to get 26 days of work in over the summer for each player.

Players will always be out by 830 or 9am if they have a job to get to. I am looking forward to a great summer and everyone is ready to make a committment to get better!

Our first "open field" ended up more like an open gym as the weather was poor. 30 players showed up to learn football on a Saturday in March. This is valuable learning time for players. On April 18th we will be having another "open field". This will be another opportunity for players to pick up our offensive and defensive schemes. Lineman begin at 7:55 (be there about 7:30). Specialty should be there about 9:30. (On the field by 9:50)
